Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?

The message of love and service, which Jesus taught, was so simple even a child could grasp it. All that was needed was an open mind.
“. . . thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes . . .” (Matthew 11: 25-27)

The popular TV show, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, underscores how easy it is to forget what we’ve learned in life. In Jesus’ day, the Pharisees studied scripture chapter and verse, yet they forgot its most basic teachings. The message of love and service, which Jesus taught, was so simple even a child could grasp it. All that was needed was an open mind. Children have an innate capacity to think outside the box. They are so open-minded they turn the box that held their toy into something magical. To a child, anything is possible. Their lives are based on faith. That may be why Jesus held them out as an example. Are you smarter than a fifth grader? In what creative ways can you be of service today?
