When the resurrected Jesus appeared to His disloyal friends in the Upper Room, the first thing He said was, "Peace be to you." He wasn't critical, angry or vengeful, He was reassuring and comforting. How well do you know God? Is He a friend or merely an acquaintance? An acquaintance is someone you engage in idle chitchat that never gets beyond polite banter before you're distracted by someone or something that you find more interesting.

“The Lord is risen indeed.” (Luke 24: 13-35)
Two things about today’s passage stand out in my mind.
The first thing is that the Risen Savior went out of His way to be with two men who were not part of His inner circle, a pointed reminder that Jesus brought salvation for all of us, not just a select few. We don’t have to be famous statesmen, celebrities, captains of industry or Nobel Laureates.
The second thing I’m struck by is how long it took the two men to recognize Jesus, possibly another indication that they weren’t His close friends. Read More...
