Kindness to Strangers Is A Core Christian Value

Kindness toward strangers, and not just to our friends and neighbors, is a core Christian value. To extend to newcomers a warm welcome is to be open, to make room in our lives, to acknowledge all we have has been given to us to share.

Random Acts of Kindness

“I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” (John 15: 18-21)
Out of curiosity, I decided to see how many articles the major media devote to hatred and how many articles they devote to kindness. So I logged onto my computer and scanned the major newspapers and magazines for the last few years, using “hatred” and “kindness” as my search terms.
In a four-year period, Time magazine had one-hundred eighty-three stories on hatred and thirty-five stories on kindness. The odds were five to one in favor of hatred. Next, I tried USA Today where I found five-hundred ninety-two stories on hatred, two-hundred forty-nine on kindness. A little better than two to one. The same thing was true of the Washington Post and Newsday.
Every media that I searched devoted at least twice as much coverage to hatred than to kindness. Read More...
