The Pharisees Had Myopia

“They perceived not that he spake to them of the Father.” (March 31, 2009)
In today’s Gospel, Jesus dispenses some strong medicine to the Pharisees, who were spiritually sick and not seeing clearly. A physician might say the Pharisees suffered from myopia. They could see nearby objects well enough - - they could read the fine text of the Old Testament - - but they could not recognize the big picture. They did not see how to apply what they read.
