Good Is Not Good Enough

“And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is acceptable in his own country.” (Luke 4: 21-30)

In His first recorded sermon, Jesus revealed the radical nature of His ministry. His fellow villagers were amazed “at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth” He could have accepted their praise and let it go at that. But He didn’t.

Jesus wasn’t willing to leave well enough alone. He wasn’t there to astonish; He was there to admonish. He began speaking to them, not as a miracle worker, but as a prophet, calling them to a change of heart.
