Knocking on Heaven's Door

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Matthew 7: 7-12)
Our neighbor’s daughter has been going from house to house, knocking on doors, asking people if they’d like to take a chance in a sweepstakes drawing sponsored by the local Christian school. Of course, I bought several chances. How could I not?
I remember when I was her age, going door-to-door, selling magazine subscriptions for our school. You had to knock and ask quite a few times before you received the order you were seeking. But, eventually, you learned how many “No’s” it took to get to a “Yes”; then every response - - positive or negative - - was seen as a sign of progress. By simply dividing the value of every sale by the number of “No’s,” you could actually calculate the value of every rejection. Looked upon that way, there was no such thing as a worthless sales call. Each one brought you closer to a sale.
Achieving anything worthwhile in life takes persistence. Read More...
